A Special Fire Test for Steel Structures

In addition to the concrete-steel slab, a patent-pending moment transferring mechanism was also tested. Behaviour of the structure has been observed via video camera, thermo-couples, displacement and stress measurement devices during the experiment.
With this project being a full-scale fire endurance experiment developed as a university research project for the first time in Turkey, a steel-concrete composite slab with steel joint connection frequently used in high-rise steel buildings was exposed to a ISO834 fire curve for 105 minutes and then to a 90-minute cooling process. In addition to the concrete-steel slab, a patent-pending moment transferring mechanism was also tested. Behaviour of the structure has been observed via video camera, thermo-couples, displacement and stress measurement devices during the experiment. A composite slab cross-section (3.5mx4m) which was planned for 1.5 years was tested in Efectis Era Eurasia Fire Laboratory as per Europe Marie Curie 7. Frame Programme and with support of Tubitak 3001 Research and Development Project. Results of the experiment reveal that structure does not löse its load bearing capacity through a mechanism called “membrane” even though composite slabs were initially exposed to high temperature for 105 minutes.
